​I hadn't planned to film this starling murmuration. It was just chance. I happened to be there.

A friend and I heard about the murmurations at Poldhu Cove, in Cornwall, so we drove over one evening, when the weather seemed favourable.

At first, while we waited, alongside a small crowd of people, including the children you can hear in the background,  nothing much happened. Then a few birds appeared and then a massive flock congregated and came so close to us we were enveloped in the swooshing sound of the murmuration.  

It was exhilerating! We felt so lucky.

The film was selected by Awen Productions and included in screenings of short films which toured Cornwall in 2024.

With short films made by Access Theatre, Growing Links, Carefree, Hayle Youth Group and Padstow young people and wonderful archive film from The Box on traditions and customs from the South West.
