This system is applicable to any cane or stick, or even an umbrella, within its limitations. In the case of an umbrella the point and butt are the effective protions. A very reliable and suitable cane for a weapon is a medium weight hickory stick, as it is of great toughness and strenght and is of low cost. A cane with a straight handle has some advantages over one with a crook or offset handle as it can be used more uniformly from each end and blows from the butt are more concentrated.
